Khalid Mahmood MP

Khalid Mahmood MP is the member of Parliament for Birmingham Perry Barr constituency which he has served continuously since his election in June 2001. Mr Mahmood is also the Shadow Minister for Defence Procurement having previously served as the Shadow Minister for Europe, Russia and Central Asia and has been awarded a prestigious honour by Europe’s leading human rights organisation and has been named an honorary associate of the Council of Europe. He was a Birmingham City Councillor from 1990-1993.He also served as Parliamentary Private Secretary to Home Office Minister Tony McNulty from 10 November 2005 until 6 September 2006.

Owen Thompson MP

Owen is the Member of Parliament for his home constituency of Midlothian and serves as an SNP Whip. He studied accounting and finance at Edinburgh Napier University, after which he worked in the financial services industry for a period before being elected to Midlothian Council in 2005, the youngest Councillor in Scotland at the time. After a period as Leader of Midlothian Council he was elected to Westminster in 2017, regaining the seat in 2019. Personally he enjoys football, rugby, craft beer and films.

The Rt Hon George Howarth

MP for Knowsley since 1986. He was Parliamentary Under-Secretary (Home Office) May 1997 - Jul 1999 and Parliamentary Under-Secretary (Northern Ireland Office) Jul 1999 - Jun 2001. He sits on the Panel of Chairs.

Colum Eastwood MP

MP for Foyle since 2019. Formerly a Derry City Councillor from 2005 until 2011, and in 2010 and at the age of 27 Colum was appointed Derry's youngest ever Mayor. Colum is also the party's spokesperson for A New Ireland.

Simon Fell MP

Simon was elected as the Member of Parliament for Barrow & Furness in December 2019.

Simon’s family have lived in and around Furness since the 1600s, and still do so today. He was born in Preston and has been married to Pippa for 10 years, with has a young daughter, and a newborn son. He lives in Ulverston. Simon was Chair of the Barrow and District Credit Union for two years and worked as a director at a not-for-profit company which prevented fraud and other financial crime, and protects vulnerable people from falling victim to fraud and scams. Prior to this, he worked in telecoms, helped run two charities, and also ran his own communications business for a number of years. Simon is passionate about tackling poverty and homelessness and believes strongly in working in partnership with others to effect change. Simon graduated from the University of Warwick with Honours in English Literature. Since 2009, he has been a member of the British Council's TN2020 network of future leaders. His mother, father and grandfather all worked at BAE. Simon was the Conservative candidate for Barrow and Furness in 2015. The campaign he led achieved a swing of over 4% to the Conservatives, reducing the Labour majority to 795. In 2017, he fought Barrow and Furness again, reducing the majority to 209 and achieving a swing of 6.5%. In June 2016, Simon voted to leave the EU. Simon is a keen (but really quite bad) runner, a worse cyclist, an avid reader and keeps a tortoise, Herman.

Deputy Chair: The Baroness Uddin

Lady Uddin was raised to the peerage as Baroness Uddin, of Bethnal Green in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets in 1998. She is not affiliated with any group or party. She was the youngest woman on the benches and the only Muslim and Asian woman to be appointed to the House of Lords. She was invited to the House of Lords for her contribution to the advancement of women and disability rights.

Lady Uddin was born in 1959 and came over from Bangladesh in 1973. She was educated in the University of North London, where she earned her diplomacy in social work. Uddin started her professional career by creating and leading community working groups. In 1980, she started working as a Youth and Community worker with the YWCA, and then a Liaison Officer for Tower Hamlets Social Services, and Manager of Tower Hamlets Women's Health Project. In 1990, she was elected a Labour Councillor in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets; the first Bangladeshi Woman to hold such an office of a local authority in the UK. Since entering the House of Lords, Baroness Uddin continues to champion a range of initiatives and organizations which promote women's participation in civil society, violence against women and human rights, in the UK and internationally with a number of governments in the Muslim world. She is a passionate promoter of diplomacy and conflict resolution, having travelled extensively to a number of Middle East and European countries on bridge-building missions.

Admiral the Rt Hon Lord West of Spithead GCB DSC PC ADC DUniv

After serving as First Sea Lord, Lord West became Minister for national security and counter-terrorism as well as cyber and Olympic security in 2007.
He produced the United Kingdom’s and world’s first National Cyber Security strategy. He left government in May 2010.

The Rt Hon Lord Arbuthnot of Edrom

Lord (James) Arbuthnot has a long history of involvement at the top of UK defence and political life, having been a Conservative MP for 28 years, Minister of State for Defence Procurement (1995-7), Conservative Chief Whip (1997-2001), and Chairman of the Defence Select Committee (2005-2014). He now advises SC Strategy Ltd, Thales UK and other companies and is a Senior Associate Fellow of the Royal United Services Institute.

The Rt Hon. the Baroness Neville-Jones

Baroness Neville-Jones is a Conservative Peer, appointed in 2007. She sits on the Science and Technology Committee (Lords) and was Minister of State (Home Office) (Security) May 2010 – Sep 2011. Prior to entering Parliament she was a civil servant in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and then became a Governor of the BBC from 1998 – 2004. Before entering Parliament she was non-executive Chairman of Qinetiq and Chairman of the Information Assurance Advisory Council until 2007.

The Baroness Neville-Rolfe

Baroness Neville Rolfe is a Conservative peer, appointed in 2013. She sits on the European Union Committee and the EU Financial Affairs Sub-Committee. Prior to this she was Commercial Secretary (Minister of State) (HM Treasury) Dec 2016 - Jun 2017, Minister of State (Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy) Jul 2016 - Dec 2016, Parliamentary Under-Secretary (Department for Culture, Media and Sport) May 2015 - Jul 2016 and Parliamentary Under-Secretary (Department for Business, Innovation and Skills) (Intellectual Property) Jul 2014 - Jul 2016. Before entering Parliament she was a Main Board Director of Tescos.

The Lord Mackenzie of Framwellgate

Lord Mackenzie is a Labour peer, appointed in 1998. He has sat on the EU Sub Committee - Home Affairs, Health and Education May 2012 - Jul 2013 and the EU Sub-Committee F - Home Affairs Nov 2009 - May 2012. Prior to entering Parliament, he served in the Durham Constabulary from 1963 to 1998 reaching the rank of Chief Superintendent. He is also a Graduate of the FBI National Academy (1985). He is also the Patron of the Association of Security Consultants (ASC).

The Lord Taylor of Warwick

John David Beckett Taylor, Baron Taylor of Warwick, is a member of the House of Lords in the Parliament of the United Kingdom. From humble beginnings, he is the son of Jamaican immigrants. John Taylor was brought up in the industrial heartland of Birmingham, England. In 1996 he became the only black peer amongst 1,700 Dukes, Duchesses, Earls, Viscounts, Bishops, Barons and Law Lords. He took the title The Right Honorable Lord Taylor of Warwick. At the time of his appointment he was the only black Lord and one of the youngest in the upper house. Lord Taylor was the First Black Government Special Advisor in Britain, advising the Home Secretary and Ministers of State. He went on to become the First Black conservative Peer. Lord John Taylor introduced and carried through the Criminal Evidence Amendment Act 1997, which established Britain’s first ever DNA Database. Baron Taylor was a district councillor, called to the bar as a Barrister-at-Law, and appointed by the Lord Chancellor as a judge. He established an International Leadership Academy, the Warwick Leadership Academy (formerly WLF) in 1997, mentoring future world business and political leaders from over 50 nations worldwide. He is listed as one of the 100 Great Black Britons and was the first Black Baron to have his portrait in the London National Portrait Gallery.

Alun Cairns MP

Alun Cairns was first elected as the Member of Parliament for the Vale of Glamorgan in May 2010 and served as the Secretary of State for Wales, under three different Prime Minister's, over a span of three and a half years. He has a strong interest in cyber and energy security and chairs the APPG on Energy Security. He is also a member of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly and its technology committee.

Andrew Henderson, Wychwood Consulting Ltd.

Andrew Henderson runs the Secretariat of the APPG. He has been an associate of the ISG since 2009 and has many years in the Smart card and encryption technology sectors. Andrew advises clients on cyber security issues and also advises clients on political engagement and strategies.

Professor Konstantinos Markantonakis B.Sc. M.Sc. Ph.D. MBA, joined the Information Security Group (ISG) in 2002 and he is currently a Professor of Information Security with active research, teaching and managerial responsibilities. His research has attracted national and international funding and he has published more than 200 information security articles in international conferences and journals. He is the Director of the Smart card and IoT Security Centre (SCC) and the Director of the Transformative Digital Technologies, Security and Society Catalyst, at Royal Holloway University of London. He is the chair of IFIP WG 11.2 Pervasive Systems Security. He has experience in commercialisation of cyber security ideas and products, and he has acted as experienced consultant for several key technology companies.
